A Personal Note

Hi! I’m Tom, founder of Kraken Marine Services.

After graduating from college, I followed my passion for being at sea and began commercial fishing out of Sand Point, Alaska.  Over the next several years, I fished every season I could in Area M. I fell deeply in love with my time at sea, the lifestyle, the work ethic, and the peaceful nights asleep rocking on anchor.

My mechanical career began when our power skiff suffered a serious breakdown during the peak of the salmon seine season.  The problem was obvious: there wasn’t anyone we could turn to for help solving the problem. In true Alaskan style, if you can’t find what you need, you make it! And so I began my quest to demystify the dark arts known only by the true “heavy hitter” mechanics from Seattle.

After a stint as an engineer on a superyacht in the Bahamas, I moved to Washington State and started wrenching full time as a land-based marine Diesel engine mechanic.  Turns out, people really appreciate someone who cares about their issues and works diligently to sort them out. Not shortly after, I took my services independent to cater directly to the vessels I care about most.

Today we continue building our coalition of the willing, a team of highly experienced, highly capable, and highly caring marine diesel mechanics. We are proud to help some of the largest seafood companies in America maintain their fleet vessels, and some of the smallest pleasure boats in Washington make it to the San Juan Islands every summer.

Sure, the work conditions ain’t always great (tight spaces, dirty chemicals, physical injury…!), but we take great pride in a job well done, a boat owner satisfied, and the knowledge that we help keep important boats on track with their important plans.

Thank you to everyone who supports us supporting them. I look forward to taking care of the vessels of the PNW for years to come.
